Our approach

Having a specialist team dedicated to data centre new builds and maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO), coupled with the relevant supply chain management, is crucial for maintaining new build delivery and ongoing MRO supply. In addition to these project scopes, we hold large stocks of cable, cable management, lighting and electrical/industrial consumables at our relevant locations. This allows us to supply multiple data centres, both new and old, across the UK and Europe. Our project management expertise ensures we achieve delivery to deadline, giving our clients exactly what they need, when they need it, where they need it. Finally, our technical and engineering teams regularly work with Data Centre operators and their contractors to support the specification of cables and electrical bulks.

Hyperscale data centre campus in Germany

A global data centre developer and operator is constructing a 112 megawatt, 1.2 million square foot, hyperscale data centre campus in Frankfurt. Hyperscale data centres are advanced buildings that provide the space, power, cooling, and network infrastructure required to support the mass-scale requirements of data and cloud computing. 

The client selected our specialist data centre division in The Netherlands to deliver their cable management and lighting requirements for the first phase of this project. The product scope comprised 60 kilometres of cable support struts together with 1,400 pre-wired luminaires, 612 downlights, and over 1,000 lighting controls.

Procurement (in collaboration with German and Italian manufacturers), expediting, packing, and shipping all formed part of our supply chain service to the client.

Pre-fabricated brackets for UK data centre

A large multinational banking group commissioned the construction of a data centre in the UK, comprising two identical buildings. This involved a highly complex technical fit-out to support full maintenance and resilient running of this 24/7 facility.

Our Fixings and Supports Division was chosen to produce more than 3,200 pre-fabricated brackets and frames of varying types to support electrical containment (e.g. ladder racks and cable trays). To create these structures, we used in excess of 32,000 metres of Unistrut channel together with thousands of fixings accessories ranging from threaded rod and washers to nuts and bolts.

The structures were assembled off-site, at our warehouse in Southampton, and delivered to the client site as a whole, rather than individual components. This approach was more cost-effective for the client and ensured that they received factory-quality products, which is often difficult to achieve on-site.

We were working to an aggressive delivery schedule. All pre-fabricated structures were manufactured and delivered within three months, without delays or defects. In addition to this, the client commended us for the construction accuracy and the care taken with regard to the packing and individual labelling of each structure.

Electrical supply for data centre in Germany

We were selected by the client to deliver their electrical containment needs for a large new build data centre located in Frankfurt, Germany.

This initially encompassed cable ladder, cable tray, cable trunking, and conduit. However, in response to the exceptional service the client received on this part of the project, they further extended the scope. This included the supply of 1,500 surface-mounted LED luminaires (1.5m in length) together with 40,000 cable cleats. We liaised with several European manufacturers on design, product selection, and securing technical approval.

As part of our service offering, we took care of all aspects of supply chain management. This encompassed procurement, expediting, packing, documentation/approval certificates, and shipping.
